Product Description
Joes 2 Pros turns SQL students into SQL certified experts. This is the original SQL book that began it all. A newer second edition of this book has been reprinted with a lower price under the new title, ?Beginning SQL Joes 2 Pros?. It has the same images, explanations, practices, and quizzes as before, as well as great new additions suggested by readers. Just as every computer expert in the world today knew nothing about computers when they started out, you too can evolve from Joe 2 Pro by taking the steps outlined in these books. Over several years, students have given feedback on what has helped them learn & achieve success. These new labs are a direct result of this positive feedback.

5 out of 5 stars Best way to learn T-SQL   July 2, 2010

Short, concise, and easy-to-read. Gets right to the point teaching basic T-SQL syntax. Downloadable CompanionCD includes lab setup scripts, answer scripts (to the included quizzes), resource files, and even animated PowerPoint files which build code debugging skills on the topics covered in each chapter. This is a well thought-out approach to teaching this language. I would love to see this author take on other languages like VB.NET as well! Very well done. Buy the 2nd book in this series and you'll be a T-SQL pro in no time!

Hello, I want to recommend Rick Morelan's Joes 2 Pros teaching aids as a must have in your quest to learn Microsoft SQL server 2008. I am currently a student In a 12 to 36 week Intensive program that teaches business intelligence. Learning SQL in a Microsoft environment is my goal and purpose but the instruction leaves me void of a complete understanding. The pace of the course; as you may already know is extremely fast; this is because most of these programs are set up just to make money off the BI and IT boom and If you are a novice or an enthusiast wanting to learn SQL you'll get swallowed up as the course progress through topics such as recursive queries, pivots, CTE, and the various joins: leaving you confused and frustrated.

Nevertheless, after failing several test in my BI course and after wanting to throw in the towel; I was up late one night contemplating about my next steps and I discovered Rick's Joes2Pros videos on YouTube; they were so clear and concise I knew then that I had to have them If I wanted to be successful in my course; that I already paid 19,000 thousand dollars for. I purchase Rick's DVD's and every one of his teaching aids I found on Amazon and I can tell you that this was the best move I made. If I knew any better I would not have taken the 19,000 Bi classes to learn SQL I would have just purchased Rick's books which are excellent teaching aids that cater to your overall understand of SQL server 2008 in a Microsoft environment. I have been help immensely I now understand joins and other concept that I had trouble with in my BI course which I now have learned from the Joes2Pros teaching aids; I know you would agree ;if you to made Joes2Pros the center piece of you SQL server collection.

5 out of 5 stars What an excellent resource. Even a teenager can do this!   October 11, 2009

As a seasoned Sr. DBA for a premier global financial institution, I found myself asking a quick question about inner and outer joins and again how a NULL value is treated by them. After a quick Google search I came across a small video, demonstrating a quick answer to my question at [...]. There was an easy style to the author's presentation. The video images were large and clear. After 5 minutes I had my answer and was about to go on my way when I saw other videos. These videos were related to chapters in the authors book, which was prominatly displayed with a free sample of the text. I began to read the forward and immediately identified with the author's recollection of how he got started working with SQL Server. I thought that the author had made the topics so easy to read and understand, skill checks to test yourself, a video demonstration of exactly the steps taken to achieve success, PLUS an explanation of WHY the steps were completed as demonstrated. What else could a person want, short of a dedicated one on one session with the author, of how to learn T-SQL. So I decided to teach my kids a little bit about what I do for a job, and give them something to pursue if they liked what I was about to expose them to. This book has been the foundation of a Sunday afternnon, one hour class, with three teenagers. Starting on chapter 1, reading the text, watching the videos, doing the skill checks, and actually writing SQL code, they have astounded me with their comprehension of the material. By the end of chapter two(completed today), the kids (15, 14 and 12) are writing TSQL queries both mentally and inside SSMS that amazes me. They could almost pass a job interview as junior development DBA (DBAD), with the knowledge they'v gained so far. All by chapter 2!! By chapter 4 they will have enough knowledge to perform 70% of my report writing TSQL job as a Sr DBA! What a terrific product! If you are just beginning the journey of learning SQL, do yourself a big favor and don't buy anything else to start out with. In 10 years of earning a living through my knowledge of SQL, this book would have saved me years of research, hunting for answers all over the web, plus, this book will get me to a point where I can take the Microsoft Certification for SQL Server 2008. A heartfelt Thank You to the author for all the work in presenting this material in such a terrific fashion. You've got a customer for life!

5 out of 5 stars Best SQL Book Ever Created   September 30, 2009

This is the best SQL book I've read, it really helped me clarify some questions I had with SQL. Many educational books are too wordy that you dread having to pick it up and read it, because it takes forever. Joes 2 Pros is simple, but down to the point. It has nice text size, and includes downloadable videos, Labs, Answers, and a Bug Catcher where you have to find what is wrong with the code. This is one book I did not want to put down, I call this a must buy.
